2020.09.25 19:18 WorldWideWebb01 Cocktail recommendations for an American theme?

So I’ve been put in charge of drinks for an American themed dinner party and have no clue where to start
Any cocktails that are particularly popular in America? Any red, white and blue options using?
I’m a fairly savvy bartender with all the equipment, however, I am on a bit of a budget.
In the arsenal currently I have gin, Creme de cassis, lemon, sugar syrup (yes I drink Brambles), flavoured gins and any mixer. Very happy to buy a couple of bits as I’d sure I’ll find use of them

2020.09.25 18:40 Patisfaction Does anyone know why Cassie was so opposed to acquiring humans?

Cassie was always the reason that the Animorphs didn't acquire humans. I think it's brought up when they acquire dolphins, about how they're sentient. Was she worried about stealing memories? Did Cassie learn Rachel's secrets or something in the book where Rachel was allergic to alligators?

Was she opposed to acquiring a Yeerk? Andalites? Leerans? etc?

2020.09.25 18:31 ergattonero "Conversations with dead people": why Tara was missing from a STORY point of view (and a couple other things I want to understand better)

Hi there guys :)
I'm fully into a rewatch of Buffy (thanks Amazon) and I finally arrived at the 7th season (I like it, I've read this is not a popular opinion). I just happened to rewatch "Conversations with dead people"
I have a couple of question you could help me with:
  1. Willow talks to Cassie and not to Tara. We know why that happened from a production point of view (Amber Benson didn't want to ruin Tara's arc and I kinda agree with her), but what the explanation from the narrative point of view? Wasn't the first able to talk through the image of every dead person? Why Tara wasn't the chosen one?
  2. There's this neat theory regarding Joyce being really the one talking to Dawn, in the end. The light and everything meaning she was in heaven. So... why did she warn Dawn that "When it's bad, Buffy won't choose you"?
And I think is over. I'm just a curious italian guy, really.

2020.09.25 17:51 littleirishpixie What is Taylor Rice doing now and please tell me it's something awesome in the gymnastics community?

Cassie Rice's name came up during the "Miss Val podcast incident of 2020" and it made me nostalgic for Taylor and how fantastic she was for our sport. Does anyone know if she's coaching? I won't judge her if she left gymnastics behind but if she's coaching the next generation of fiery gymnasts who are going to take down the system, I'm here for it.

I’m confused on the scene of when McKay and Cassie are at his dorm having sex then all those men come in, what did the men do? Why was he so upset about them coming in? I Personally really like McKay he’s obvs going through something and taking it out on Cassie who doesn’t deserve it.

2020.09.25 06:20 blitrans13 Adult book involving a girl (I think around 7 years old) named Cassie or Cassidy or some variation?

When I was maybe six or seven (around ten years ago) my family and I went on a trip and my dad played an audiobook for himself that I liked so much I asked him to read the rest to me as we didn’t finish it on the trip. It was very much not age appropriate, and I only remember bits and pieces. What I do remember is that it involved a little girl named Cassie or Cassidy or some such variation who had a lot of issues. Travis was her brother or maybe her father. Rose was the girl’s caretaker and her and Travis fell in love.

2020.09.25 01:33 SnooTigers8928 I'm (26M) thinking of breaking up with my perfect girlfriend (24F)

I'm hoping to get the Asian perspective on this since some of you may have had the experience of growing up with the expectation of 孝顺.
I've been dating Cassie for 2 years now. We met during our orientation in our 1L and have been together since. I've been struggling with thoughts of ending our relationship. She's my dream-girl in every way. She and I are aligned in our views, long-term goals, communication styles and plans for the future. We make each other laugh and have so much fun together. She's very considerate and will do things like do my laundry, cook for me and buy my textbooks. Without me asking, she even covered my rent for 1 month after a family emergency came up that required me to use up a lot of my savings on lawyer fees. I vented about the situation to her but I never asked her to pay it. She never asked me whether I wanted he to because we've spoken about how I'll never accept money from her. (More on why later). I only found out when I emailed my landlord to create a payment plan and explore other options and he said "It's already been paid. Check the portal." (Also, for what it's worth I paid her a few months later and took her to a nice restaurant as a thank you. I then kindly said, "Thanks, but please don't do it again. I had it handled"). (You'll see why I'm so apprehensive about accepting monetary help later). I'm saying this because I don't want to paint her in a bad light. By almost all accounts, she's a perfect girlfriend.
The problem is that her parents hate me. They've hated since she first told them about me about a year ago. She is Chinese-American, an only child, and from a wealthy family and I'm Mexican and from a poor family. Even though we're both going to be lawyers and even though I went to the best undergrad school on the West coast, they say that I'll never be able to provide for her and also that being dark and Mexican is ugly and that Mexicans are stupid. They also say that she is being selfish and disobeying them after all they've done for her and given up for her. I've been near the phone when these conversations have happened and she's always said (and I'm translating here—more on that later), "That's a horrible thing to say. Don't ever repeat it in front of me. People say the same things about us and the 'China Virus,' so how could you be racist?!" She reacted so forcefully every time they said racist things that they then switched to the fact that my family is poor, saying, "I just want her money."
(They paid for her to attend a very expensive private high school in the Bay Area and then an even more expensive private college). She really takes all this to heart and struggles with feelings of shame and guilt about disobeying her parents. I'm not gonna lie, it's hard for me to comfort her in these moments when I and everyone who looks like me is the one who's being disparaged. Nevertheless, I do my best.
She actually ended up lying and saying we broke up after a year because they kept calling me at all hours of the day demanding I break up with her and it was affecting my grades. (I couldn't hang up because I was hoping by talking to them, they'd realize that I wasn't so bad). Before that, I tried assuaging their fears about cultural dilution by learning Chinese with the undergrads on campus. I actually won the school-wide speech competition that allowed me to travel to Tsinghua to do a cultural exchange and I spoke in Chinese the entire time. Because they still hated me, she just kept up the ruse of our breakup, and we've been dating in secret ever since. Also, none of her extended family support our relationship and they think I only want her for a green card or money (Even though I was born here and she's the one who needed a green card. Lol).
She has a full tuition scholarship and a good amount of savings so she is not dependent on them in any way other than emotionally. But I wouldn't put it past them to drain her bank accounts if it came to that.
That being said, we're both living at home with our parents because COVID has made our curricula totally virtual. I wanted her to stay in the Bay, but her parents would have been very against it, so she acquiesced to their desires. (She also would likely have stayed with me, but they couldn't know that or they would have freaked out).
We've talked many times and she says she will not cut them off and that she is doing her best to find a way for them to accept me. (That being said, I don't want her to cut them off, but I can't really see them changing their minds). I've interned at a prestigious law firm in the Bay and they've verbally offered me a position after I pass the bar, which she told her parents—still nothing doing—they still said "We're glad you broke up with that Mexican. Find a Chinese guy or white guy to get married to". They will have nothing to do with me. So we've continued dating in secret.
I guess I don't see the point of continuing this ruse. I don't want to issue an ultimatum and say "them or me," but it sucks to not be able to be with your girlfriend of so long. I think it'd be best if we broke up, but it's hard because it's not like she cheated on me or disrespected me. She actually is protecting me because they threatened to call the police and say I beat her. I'm just struggling. I think we have to break up because she won't cut them out and still has this fantasy of them realizing that I'm not so bad, which I doubt will ever happen.
tl;dr Want some perspective before having the talk with my girlfriend because I don't see a future with her unless she cuts out her racist parents who hate me.

2020.09.24 23:26 pinkglitterninja Sizing for Define jacket if Dance Jacket size is 8?

So I purchased my very first lulu last week and got the dance studio jacket III in size 8 and it was snug but flattering (I’m about 5’6 around 172 lbs and working on losing more weight, runner, tiny shoulders but bigger arms, small waist and 34DDD). I ordered the scuba hoodie in a 10 because I’m obsessed with the cassis color and didn’t want my shoulders to feel constricted with a thicker material.
So now that I’ve gotten hooked, I’d love to get a Define jacket in either the hooded nulu or no hood but not sure if I should size up to a 10 or stay at an 8 since it’s a more fitted style? Also should I get the hooded or no hooded? I don’t really wear a hood unless it rains or snows but I like the look of the nulu hooded define jacket.
Thank you for the advice!!!!

2020.09.24 23:02 SoCalGuy1972 TIFU by going overboard on heckling

TIFU by heckling and being a little too merciless with my humor.
A few years ago, the Reign in Ontario was part of the ECHL, aka just a AA team or a farm team, and they would allow a few amenities and laughs that you would never get away with now that they're part of the AHL, aka AAA or a minor league team. They would do like a kiss cam and show a couple of opposing players and people would laugh or they would say the opposing team was back to full strength and we would all yell "and they still suck". Now that the Reign are part of the AHL, it's much more serious and toned down.
I have a habit of being merciless when I go to the hockey games because I like to add a little fun to the game, and a few of my comments go over the line. One time we had a big 6-1 lead and I shouted at the opposing goaltender "If my last girlfriend was that careless, I'd have eight kids right now!".
My lack of a filter and caring however came back to bite me in the butt when a team from Utah came over to play. Me, being in the spirit of the game yelled "Hey, why don't you go back to Utah and get yourself a few more wives?", some people absolutely loved that and were looking at me like "Holy crap, did he just say that?". About five months later on in the season, I had the honor of sitting next to a girl and her dad, the girl was about 7 years old, a sweet kid and her name was Cassie. I sat down and tried to keep my sentiments toned down to a PG rating. Unfortunately, that ship had sailed because Cassie said to me "One time we were at a game and someone said 'why don't you go back to Utah and get yourself some more wives?'". I sheepishly said "Honey, that was me".
I haven't quite been able to live this down but for a few years my mom had SO much fun telling everyone about how I had to admit to some raunchy heckling that was overheard by precious ears. I care a lot about letting kids be kids and I honestly was a little embarrassed for a couple of years after hearing that one.
TL;DR: I tried to be clever and a little bit naughty and I may have corrupted a poor kid. :)

2020.09.24 19:52 cssc201 Graduates hanging out at McKinley

Was anyone else annoyed with the amount of time the graduates spent at McKinley? It wasn't even just for events, they just came back and hung out there constantly. Brittany and Santana even planned their wedding there, three years after they graduated. I know it was for plot, because they didn't want to lose the glee club aspect of the show, but all of the graduates really needed to move on with their lives and stop going back to their high school so much. Honestly, I think it was a disservice to their characters' development to not let them grow past high school.
Also, practically speaking, plane tickets are expensive (except for the part with Cassie and a few lampshaded jokes from Sue, they didn't address the cost of travel) and it really doesn't make sense for all of the alumni to go back to McKinley at once for anything other than Finn's funeral. I can get some of them maybe wanting to visit once or twice, but a lot of them, like Quinn and Puck, would never have come back from their new lives just to hang out with their high school classmates, or just because the glee club that they were no longer in was ending.
